Edith Stein was a Jewish philosopher who came of age in pre-World War II Germany. Her intellectual and spiritual seeking led her to convert to Catholicism and join the Carmelites. Stein's work attracted the attention of a young professor named Karol Wojtyla. In speaking about Edith Stein, Pope Saint John Paul II said, “One thing is certain: attention to the spiritual journey of [Edith Stein] can only give greater momentum to both the search for truth and the effort to apply the results of that search to the service of humanity.” This study will introduce women to this remarkable saint and her lasting impact on the Christian concept of womanhood.
